Theory and Practice of Ropes for Java String Manipulations

Java language’s default String and StringBuilder classes poorly serves to large quantities of data manipulated by the Systems. A rope data structure may be a better alternative. A rope implementation for the Java platform; provides pointers for effective use of the library and
defines performance issues. Iteration over a flat Rope (a Rope having depth of 1) is much faster than pulling data character by character from a String is the most considerable thing for an enterprise Java developer. If you do not need to do this, then Ropes are completely
meaningless to you.
